A typical Businessowners policy or General Liability policy only has a $1,000,000 per occurrence limit and a $2,000,000 aggregate limit. The Commercial Auto policy typically will only provide up to a $1,000,000 occurrence limit and the Workers Compensation policy is generally capped at $1,000,000 Each Accident, $1,000,000 Disease Policy Limit and $1,000,000 Disease Each Employee.

An Umbrella policy is a cheap way to increase your liability limits across the board for any of these underlying policies. For instance, if your business had greater exposures or if you are a sub contractor doing work for a General Contractor who requires higher limits, you could take out an Umbrella policy with limits available from $1,000,000 to $10,000,000 to increase the above mentioned limits on your policy.
